Fonterra’s new cream cheese plant in Canterbury has started production and is set to manufacture up to 24,000 metric tonnes of cream cheese annually, bound for China. China’s changing demographics have driven a surge in popularity for Western foods. The 20kg blocks of cream cheese from Darfield will meet growing demand for bakery goods, like cheese cakes and cheese tarts.

'Muddy Buns' cleaning up the butter market

Muddy Buns, Dirty Dirty Bread, or Zang Zang Bao as it’s known in China, is creating a social media frenzy and driving a further craving for butter around the world. Fonterra Edgecumbe is all geared up to handle this new global trend and is commissioning a new butter line which will nearly double the factory’s butter sheet production from 4,500 metric tonnes to 7,000 metric tonnes.
