Our strategy is grounded in our purpose, which is to empower our people to create goodness for generations. 

It’s also about having a clear-eyed view of where we best generate returns for our farmer owners and unit holders, while bringing value to our customers and communities.

We’re focused on six strategic choices aimed at achieving three key outcomes: strong shareholder returns; a stable balance sheet; and an enduring Co-operative.

Our strategic choices

As part of a refreshed strategy announced in 2024, we confirmed that the following six strategic choices will be what we focus on in the years ahead to grow further value.
 

Deliver the strongest farmer offering

Our focus here is adapting our farmer offering to make it as competitive as we can. In particular, working alongside farmers to enable on-farm profitability and productivity, and supporting the strongest payout.

Unleash our Ingredients engine

We aim to deepen Fonterra’s position as a world-leading provider of sophisticated dairy ingredients, including building our trading capabilities to grow both the Farmgate Milk Price and earnings.

Keep up the momentum in Foodservice

We have plans to expand our successful Foodservice business in China – where we have a market-leading position – as well as selectively accelerating growth in other key markets with a capital-light approach.

Invest in operations for the future

This is about making improvements in the efficiency of our manufacturing and supply chain network, which allows flexibility to allocate milk to the highest returning product and sales channel, while continuing to work towards our sustainability goals. 

Build on our sustainability position

We’re focused on further improving our Co-operative’s sustainability credentials and strengthening partnerships with customers who value this position.  

Innovate to drive our advantage

We remain committed to being a leader in dairy innovation and science, including investing in R&D and embracing technology to solve challenges and build on competitive advantages.
