As part of our Careers in Dairy programme, this partnership opens doors for rangatahi across Aotearoa to explore advanced science and connect with real-world careers in dairy.
SONZ runs high-impact, volunteer-led programmes that include hands-on learning, national camps and international competitions in subjects like biology, chemistry and physics. With Fonterra as the lead industrial sponsor, these opportunities will now reach more students—especially those from Māori, Pasifika and rural communities.
Our support helps remove barriers by funding travel subsidies, teacher development and outreach to underrepresented schools. It also showcases the exciting career pathways in dairy science, helping students see how STEM skills can shape their futures.
“Science Olympiad NZ is leading the way in inspiring young science talent across Aotearoa. We’re proud to support their mahi—opening doors to science and helping rangatahi discover how STEM skills play a vital role in shaping the future workforce,” says Keith Murihead Director of Talent, Fonterra.
“Fonterra’s support will allow us to reach more students, especially those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to advanced science opportunities. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive future for STEM in Aotearoa,” says Andrew Rogers, CEO, Science Olympiad New Zealand.
This partnership reflects our commitment to education, equity and innovation. It’s about creating a strong, diverse pipeline of future talent for the dairy industry—and we can’t wait to see how it empowers young minds across the motu.
