Holidays Act Remediation

Like many organisations in Aotearoa,
we've been working hard to address the
complexities of the Holiday Act 2003 to ensure
our leave pay calculations are accurate.
We are re-calculating Leave payments for all New Zealand-based employees, past and present, going back to June 2015.

The general areas of focus are calculations for annual leave and FBAPS leave which includes,

  • Family violence leave
  • Bereavement
  • Alternative leave days
  • Public holidays
  • Sick leave

Some current and former Fonterra employees may not have been paid as they should have.

In early 2026 we will be providing, on this page, a way for former employees to register with us so that we can recalculate their leave payments from 2015, or their start date, to July 2025 or their end date.

Frequently asked questions

  • The identified issues primarily impacted employees on variable/changing weekly hours or pay (including normal pay, overtime, and allowances).
  • Employees with more regular hours of work and pay may be affected but to a smaller degree. This means that not all employees would have been impacted by the identified issues, and the size of the impact for each employee is variable and dependent on their specific working patterns.

Early in 2026 we will have a link on this page to a portal. You will need to register your details with us then we will validate your information against our records and if your employment is within the time being remediated, we will recalculate your leave payments and let you know the outcome.

If you receive an email regarding a remediation payment or believe you are entitled to a remediation payment on behalf of an estate or a person for whom you hold power of attorney, you will be able to lodge this request via the portal next year.
