Fonterra launches new 24/7 digital sales channel for regional ingredients buyers

3 MINUTE READ

Fonterra is piloting a new digital sales channel, MyNZMP Link, a secure and intuitive e-commerce platform giving customers from across the US and Europe access to NZMP ingredients directly from regional warehouses.

The platform creates another way for the Co-op to help customers purchase ingredients, as it continues to innovate in the ways in which it serves customers in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

Customers in Europe can now purchase on the platform the Co-op's Heerenveen whey protein concentrate and lactose, while US customers can access caseins, caseinates, whey protein concentrates and milk protein concentrates.

Developed in partnership with Nui Markets, the platform was selected after customer research in both regions identified the need to deliver a new digital solution to provide superior service for all customers, in particular those looking for self-service and immediate information on pricing and supply options. It also gives them and the ability to secure volumes up to 12 months in advance at competitive prices.

The pilot scheduled to run until mid-2026 during which the platform will continuously be measured against various metrics and customer satisfaction rankings.

How does the platform work and what benefits does it bring to customers?

Featuring 15-minute auctions where customers submit their own supply requests and price offers for the Co-op to review, the MyNZMP Link platform uses weekly tenders, fixed price listings, and bid/counter-offer negotiations.

The platform currently offers eight ingredients including lactose, whey protein concentrate, milk protein concentrate, caseins and caseinates, with five more ingredients planned, including high fat whey protein concentrate and additional specifications of caseinates and lactose.

Early success

Thirteen customers have already joined up, showing strong initial adoption.

Initially targeting Fonterra’s customers who are well suited to digital self-service, the platform is already finding appeal to a broader range of the Co-op’s customers.

The focus for the platform remains on growth across the EU and US, following which decisions around further regions will be considered.
