Fonterra 2035 Oceania Summit

At Fonterra we believe in Kaitiakitanga - the Māori view that people are guardians of the land and are closely connected to nature. We are focused on improving the health and biodiversity of our land and water through key partnerships and a regenerative mindset, reducing the impacts of farming and manufacturing.

As leaders in innovation and science we are pioneering many world firsts and, increasingly, new solutions. Over the last 25 years New Zealand farmers have reduced on-farm emission intensity by 20%, making Fonterra among the most efficient in the world, with an on-farm carbon footprint approximately one third of the global average.

Our farming families own our Co-operative, they have shared their dairy know how for over 150 years. It’s this history, and our focus on New Zealand milk that sees us partner with scientists, iwi, community groups and the New Zealand Department of Conservation to help bring real benefits to the environment.

In addition to the work done to date across our supply chain we have committed to a further 30% reduction in emissions by 2030, net zero emissions at our manufacturing sites by 2050, and no net increase in GHG emissions from dairy farming between 2015 and 2030.

This work can only be achieved through partnerships with customers and likeminded organisations who are focused on being part of the solution.

The Grass is greener in NZ

Fonterra is a farmer-owned co-operative, and our farmers passionately take great care of their cows.

Sustainability is key

Fonterra and its partners are working towards more sustainable and regenerative farming practices that are kind to the environment and our cows.

Innovation

We're on a mission to be part of the solution to climate warming by reducing our methane emissions

Kowbucha™

Could cows be their own methane solution? Our research teams are hard at work developing new fermentations that could reduce carbon emissions by 20%.

We are excited to be partnering with the 2035 Oceanic summit, and look forward to being part of the conversations that will shape our future.

Fonterra are proud to be a co-sponsor of the Festival of Food with Ecogas. Ecogas was created to solve New Zealand’s food waste problem by partnering with businesses to redirect waste from landfills; instead using it to create truly sustainable energy, biogas and organic fertiliser.
