Engineering Information Standards and Guidelines

Find key information and resources, including templates, training videos, as well as frequently asked questions.
Asset data and information management is the cornerstone to efficient operations, informed decision-making, and sustainable growth.

In today's fast-paced world, we rely heavily on accurate and accessible asset data to maximise productivity, minimise risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Asset data and information refers to the records and details associated with Fonterra's assets, which include physical items like machinery, vehicles and buildings.

Fonterra Information Management Framework – for Capital Projects

The purpose of the Asset Information Requirements document (AIR) is to clearly define the standards and expectations necessary for delivering a comprehensive Asset Information Model (AIM). This model will include a structured asset register with detailed characteristics aligned to Fonterra’s asset management and engineering needs, a well-organized repository of essential drawings, documents, and files to support ongoing operations and maintenance, accurate as-built models with associated data, and consistently coordinated components that are cross-referenced with minimal duplication. All information will be presented in formats compatible with Fonterra’s systems and management capabilities, ensuring seamless integration and usability.

Drawing Playbook

Drawings are essential records of the work completed and play a critical role in supporting maintenance planning, operational programmes, and training. Fonterra's Drawing Playbook details expectations for consultants and contractors involved in our projects to submit CAD drawings that meet defined technical and procedural standards. These provide a consistent framework for creating, managing, and transferring engineering drawings across all disciplines—ensuring quality control, consistency, and efficiency in CAD workflows, particularly within our process manufacturing environments. It applies to all drawing types, including design, work-in-progress, contract, and as-built drawings. To request access email assetinformation@fonterra.com.

As noted in the Asset Information Requirements document (AIR) The intention is to stage document handover according to the needs of the site and project. It will be progressively collated throughout the project to ensure that the digital assets match the physical assets on day one of operations.

When engaged in a Fonterra Capital Project, the project team will have a Common Data Environment (CDE) created for sharing documentation. The Fonterra Project Manager will provide access and instructions to all stakeholders during project onboarding.

Documentation formats are defined in both the Asset Information Requirements (AIR) document, as well as in the Fonterra Drawing Playbook when defining drawing or 3D modelling requirements.
