Fonterra Pahiatua to host community information day

Fonterra Pahiatua to host community information day. The information day also kicks off the Co-operative's recruitment process for approximately 50 new jobs that the expansion will create.

Last December Fonterra announced a $235 million investment into a new high-efficiency milk powder plant at the Pahiatua site in the Tararua district. The new dryer, which will become the third on-site, will enable the Co-operative to process an additional 2.4 million litres of milk each day.

Progress on-site includes the construction of the dryer building walls and the installation of three new rail tracks which will allow the site to minimise the number of overall train movements.

At the information day local residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the developments, take a bus tour of the site and hear more about the jobs on offer.

Fonterra Pahiatua Operations Manager Bill Boakes says that the 50 new jobs created by the expansion will provide opportunities for applicants from a range of backgrounds with different skills and experience.

"We're excited that we have been able to open these employment prospects to the community we work in. We offer full training and development programmes and have an excellent health and safety record," says Mr Boakes.

Fonterra Managing Director Global Operations Robert Spurway says the expansion will help the Co-operative manage rising milk volumes and respond to a growing global demand for dairy.

"Milk production is up 4.3 per cent on last year. This new plant will help us process the extra milk in a way that delivers the most value to our farmers and will also help us meet the growing global demand for dairy nutrition."

Milk powder from the new dryer is expected to be ready for export by September 2015.

The site's community information day will be held at:

Bush Multisport - 57 Huxley Street, Pahiatua
On 22 November from 10am to 2pm
