Positive trend in improving quality of river water

New data indicates that the on-going work by farmers to protect our waterways is beginning to show.

More river water sites are improving then deteriorating in quality according to the latest water quality trends released by Land, Air, Water Aotearoa (LAWA).  

Compared with the 2015 report, a change in the trend of nitrogen is particularly noteworthy, with significant progress in the number of improving sites compared with the number that are deteriorating. 

The trends are an indication that the on-going work by our farmers is starting to show. Over 98% of all significant waterways have been fenced and 95% of our farmers completed nitrogen management reports.

Of course, our farmers often collaborate with many groups, organisations and the regional council in their communities.
