Edgecumbe’s Tidy Kiwis

Tyres, plastic bags and odd jandals were among the two truckloads of rubbish collected during a two hour clean up at Edgecumbe’s Thornton beach.

The day was led by Fonterra Edgecumbe’s Environmental Advisor, Petra Feickert, who organised a group of staff to take part in the annual Keep New Zealand Beautiful ‘Clean Up Week’– an initiative Fonterra Edgecumbe regularly takes part in.

“We chose Thornton Beach because of its connection to the site. The beach sits at the mouth of our river, the Rangitaiki, so our people feel a connection to the area,” says Petra.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful ‘Clean Up Week’ is New Zealand’s largest annual clean up event.  Each year hundreds of organisations, businesses, and communities, including many of Fonterra’s sites, take the opportunity to get together and clean up their local areas.

We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community, especially after the recent floods.  And it’s a pretty satisfying job seeing the difference just two hours of cleaning up makes.
