Milk for Schools kids celebrate Fonterra ‘Big Slurp’
New Zealand celebrations for World School Milk Day happened a week early this year so kids didn’t miss out while they’re on school holidays.
World School Milk day, held on the last Wednesday of September, celebrates the health benefits of school milk programmes around the world. In New Zealand, Fonterra provides milk to more than 170,000 Primary school children every day.
Last week our Fonterra Milk for Schools schools celebrated ‘The Big Slurp’ with hundreds of Kiwi kids sitting down to enjoy the goodness of our milk at the same time.
The kids also made cow masks and wrote letters to our farmers thanking them for the milk.
Community Programmes Operational Lead Kate Mahoney says it was great to see so many schools have some fun on the day as well as saying thank you to our farmers.
“The schools really get involved and into the spirit of the programme,” says Kate. “We’ve received a lot of photos and letters to our Fonterra farmers – it’s really encouraging to see their enthusiasm and appreciation.”
