The partnership brings together the Government and agribusiness organisations - including Fonterra, Synlait, the a2 Milk Company, Silver Fern Farms, ANZCO, Ravensdown, Alliance, Farmlands, Rabobank, ASB, ANZ and BNZ – to drive progress on reducing biogenic methane emissions.
Established in 2023, the programme is focused on developing options that work in New Zealand’s pastoral system without compromising on-farm productivity or profitability.
Fonterra CEO Richard Allen says recommitting to AgriZeroNZ accelerates progress by bringing government and agribusiness together to develop the tools farmers need at a scale and pace that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.
"The continued investment keeps momentum in AgriZeroNZ’s important mission," he says.
"Reducing on-farm emissions is likely going to require a multi-faceted approach, so continued investment supports a portfolio of methane and other mitigation tools moving closer to farm-ready solutions."
Since the partnership's launch, funding has been committed across more than 20 ventures, research projects and trials, with the aim to have a range of tools available to New Zealand farmers by 2030.
