Fonterra Grass Roots Fund helps Featherston Rugby Club celebrate 140 years

Featherston Rugby Club will be getting some new uniforms thanks to a grant from the Fonterra Grass Roots fund.

The club is preparing to celebrate their 140th anniversary next year and say the money will help its players and members look smart for their big anniversary. The Rugby Club is one of 24 groups from Taranaki, Manawatu, Wanganui and Wellington which have received between $500 and $5000 in the latest round of funding.

Other recipients of grants included Waiopheu College who are planning on funding a school garden to encourage students and the community to better understand how to plant and harvest fruit and vegetables, and Inglewood Playcentre who are planning on improving their facilities in an effort to encourage more families to come along and have fun with their whanau.

This round of funding has seen the total number of community groups across the Taranaki, Manawatu, Wanganui and Wellington regions supported by the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund reach 215, taking the total number of groups throughout the country to more than 1500 since 2013.

Fonterra’s Global Sponsorship Manager Kane Silcock says the Fund supports initiatives that enrich people’s lives and benefit their community. “It’s our way of supporting projects and ideas that bring our communities together and make them better, safer, more vibrant places to be, it’s a way to say thanks to the people of New Zealand.”
