Fonterra Brands (New Zealand) Limited (FBNZ) is conducting a voluntary recall of the following product:

  • Mainland Tasty Individually Wrapped Flavoured Processed Cheese Slices 250g packets
  • Best before date of 28 February 2014

Baden Ngan Kee, FBNZ Sales Director, said that the decision to recall the product follows two reported incidents of thin strips of the plastic wrapping sticking to the cheese when it is unwrapped.

“After an investigation, we have found a fault with the product’s packaging. The plastic wrapping of individual slices may split into thin strips causing a potential hazard if consumed. There have been no reports of anyone being harmed.

“The voluntary recall is a precautionary measure as the health and safety of our consumers, and the quality of our product cannot be compromised. We advise anyone with family or friends who may have bought this product to contact them in case they do not see or hear this announcement,” Mr. Ngan Kee said.

Consumers should not eat the above-stated product but should return it to the point of purchase (with the appropriate packaging with the best before date) for a full refund.

This recall is limited to the above-stated product which was produced in New Zealand and has been sold in the North Island of New Zealand.

Some of the affected product has also been sold to consumers in Fiji, and FBNZ is currently working with the relevant authorities in Fiji to ensure the affected product is removed from market. No other products manufactured by or on behalf of FBNZ are affected.

Food recall notices have been placed in daily newspapers across the North Island this week and authorities have been notified.
