Responsible Procurement

We have the opportunity to influence for good
In terms of procurement, this means working to source goods and services produced in an environmentally and socially responsible way that positively influences behaviours in our supply chain.

We want to ensure that our procurement and other spending contributes to improving livelihoods and this includes managing risks that all businesses need to be aware of in their supply chain such as modern slavery.

Modern Slavery

Our approach to addressing modern slavery is part of our commitment to human rights, in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Find out more in our Modern Slavery Statement which was prepared in accordance with the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018.

The Fonterra Palm Product Standard

In August 2016, we released the Fonterra Palm Product Standard which commits Fonterra to a higher standard of sustainability and more proactive and transparent monitoring of the palm products that we source globally. This standard was shaped in consultation with our stakeholders.

Palm Products

We are committed to sustainable sourcing of palm products and we are working with others to improve practices across the supply chain.

Our Fonterra Forest and Agriculture Products Standard requires that all vendors of palm products within Fonterra’s supply chain are publicly committed to policies that give equivalent effect to “No Deforestation, No Peatland Development, and No Exploitation” and have business processes in place to enact these commitments.

We continue to engage vendors and work with our partners to support transformation of the palm industry towards a sustainable supply. Since 2009, Fonterra has been a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), which is a non-profit organisation set up by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil products through credible standards and engagement with stakeholders.

Respect for Legitimate Land Tenure Rights

Fonterra recognises the rights of legitimate land tenure holders and stands against illegal activities in our supply chain and land displacements which are contrary to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards.
