It tops off a big year for Western Star, after it won Champion Butter at the 2017 Grand Dairy Awards for the second year running and celebrated its 90th birthday around Australia.
Cream is already one of the two main ingredients in Western Star butter, so it is a natural next step to expand the popular range loved by consumers and chefs for its great taste.
Cobden Site Manager Bruce Manson says Western Star cream, made with locally sourced milk, will be rolling out of Cobden’s state-of-the-art plant that opened in 2015.
“It’s the most advanced bottling facility in the Southern Hemisphere and helps us make this new thickened cream close to the source.
“Western Victoria is a key region for our business and we’ve been investing for growth. Our Beverages plant commissioned two years ago and we recently expanded the Cobden cool room to make way for more dairy foods, after an investment of $6.2 million. Cobden is now Fonterra Australia’s largest site supporting more than 300 jobs and producing butter, milk, cream and powders.
“We collect milk from around 350 farming families in Western Victoria and it’s their high-quality milk that becomes the key ingredient for Western Star – and we thank them for helping us to continue growing this iconic dairy brand.
“So follow Western Star and keep Christmas celebrations simple this year, with Western Star Thickened Cream for your plum pudding, pavlova or fruit salad,” says Bruce.
Western Star Thickened Cream from the heart of the dairy country will initially be available in all good IGA, Supa IGA and Foodworks stores, from 13th of November.
Western Star Thickened Cream will be available in 300ml and 600ml.
