Dairy Nutrition

Milk is a natural source of many of the valuable nutrients people need.
Our milk is precious. We want to keep it that way. We do all we can to protect our milk.

We give the utmost care and attention to ensure the integrity of our product is protected as it journeys along our carefully managed, world-class supply chain.

Why we love dairy

Dairy is considered a ‘’good for you” food and is one of the five food groups recommended by the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

It is the richest natural food source of bio-available calcium and provides energy and high-quality protein which helps grow and repair muscles. Dairy products help meet the body’s need for:

  • Calcium which makes bones and teeth strong.
  • Phosphorus which supports the generation of energy from nutrients.
  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) which helps reduce tiredness.
  • Vitamin B12 which supports normal brain function.
  • Vitamin A which supports vision and immune function.
  • Potassium which helps maintain a healthy blood pressure.

Healthy communities are important to us and we are proud partners with Foodbank. For many people who experience food insecurity, even affording milk can be a struggle, so by partnering with Foodbank we can bring the goodness of dairy to our community.

Our Nutrition Policy and Guidelines

The Fonterra Group Nutrition Policy sets out our high-level nutrition commitments to provide goodness for generations. In 2021, we updated Fonterra Food and Nutrition Guidelines. The global guidelines set the nutrition criteria for our product composition and inform our marketing practices across all branded consumer products and ingredients that Fonterra manufactures.

The guidelines complement food standards and regulations, as well as our own education and advocacy activities to raise awareness of the value of dairy nutrition in healthy, balanced diets.

Furthermore, the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation independently reviewed and endorsed them as evidence-based guidelines founded on robust nutritional science and reflecting international directives on nutrition and health.
