BreadTalk's "White Christmas" creation crowned winner of Anchor X'Mas Cake-off

BreadTalk's inspired team came out on top among other specialty bakeries and cafes to win the coveted Golden Whisk at the first ever exclusive Anchor X'Mas Cake-off.

The awards ceremony was recently held at Colombo Court Hotel & Spa (formerly known as Colombo Courtyard Hotel), and attended by the Anchor X'mas Cake-off participants, judges and officials from Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka.

The judges were impressed by eight decadent, showstopper creations made by creative and passionate bakers, each trying to whisk and bake their way to glory.

Anchor Food Professionals' own Chef Jaime Aserappa, one of the competition's three judges said, "Each cake had its own unique features and elements that made the competition exceed all expectations. At the end of the independent judging and scoring process, we had unanimously ranked this submission number one, with high scores for Mitsi’s Delicacies and Coco Veranda.”

The BreadTalk cake used just gold and silver accents and was completely white until cut into. The red velvet base and moist rainbow inner side brought a pleasant surprise, executed to perfection using Anchor cream cheese, Anchor butter and Anchor whipping cream.

Indika Perera, Executive Pastry Chef (Product Development) of BreadTalk Sri Lanka said, “It was exciting for me and my team to participate in such a competition specifically dedicated to Christmas. The use of Anchor products in the cake truly helped in getting the moist and delicious texture we always look for in a great cake. I would like to thank Anchor Food Professionals for organising this competition, and share this win with the entire management and team at BreadTalk who put in the effort to create this winning cake.”

Kumar De Silva, Associate Director – Food Service – Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka and Indian Subcontinent said, "We thank each of our inspiring business partners for participating in this competition. At the end of the day, the real winner is the consumer who can be confident that their favourite specialty bakeries and cafes continuously push the bar to give them creative, inspired cakes and desserts with the goodness of high-quality dairy ingredients - and that is the purpose we have in common with our passionate chefs and business owners.”

Like each of the special Christmas cakes featured in the competition, BreadTalk's “White Christmas” cake will be made available to order from their outlets.
