When you see our Grass Fed claim on-pack you can trust that the product has been made using milk certified to our Fonterra Grass and Pasture Fed Standard. Our standard requires our cows to be at least 80% grass fed (on a dry weight basis) and spend 90%+ of non-milking time grazing outdoors at a minimum. Certification of the milk is provided by AsureQuality, an independent Conformity Assessment Body accredited by JAS-ANZ, against the Fonterra Grass and Pasture Fed Standard.
Thanks to New Zealand’s temperate climate, our farmers’ cows in New Zealand spend over 350 days a year grazing outdoors on pasture and consume 96% of their diet as grass or forage crops¹, so every drop of milk is full of natural goodness.
A pasture-fed diet helps to make nutrient-rich milk. And thanks to our fresh air and fertile soils, New Zealand is the ideal environment to grow nutritious grass and make delicious dairy.
¹ Our Fonterra New Zealand cows spend on average 350 days grazing on pasture and have a diet which is 96% grass, calculated on an ‘as consumed’ basis and averaged over the previous three seasons data. Grass-fed means cows mainly grazing on grass and crops in paddocks where they roam. For more information on Grass Fed, learn more here.
