New Zealand’s natural environment and farming practices are ideally suited to creating certified organic dairy products just the way nature intended. We have around 100 farmers across the North Island who supply certified organic milk. Farming organically to produce natural organic dairy means starting with a commitment to soil, animal, and crop health, and ensuring it’s sustainable for generations to come. Our organic free-range cows graze outdoors on grass 365 days a year and >99% of their diet is fresh green pasture*. We are proud of the farmers in our co-operative who have gone that step further to achieve organic certification.
Globally and here in NZ the demand for organic dairy is growing fast. The demand for organic is being driven by a growing awareness and interest in our food, the impact it has on our health and the health of our environment. People are keen to increase purchases of products and brands that are sustainable, support animal welfare as well as promoting food safety and employee welfare.

Durham Farms was founded with the vision to profitably grow organic food whilst enabling the natural environment to thrive. The founders and their growing team aim to leave the land healthier and more productive through sustainable improvement with 25% of their farmland set aside for natural habitat protection and regeneration. Durham Farms is proving that considered farming can work with nature.
Based in Waipu, Northland, Durham Farms undertakes a mixed farming approach where crops and livestock are grown together. This includes dairy cows, chickens, beef cattle, horticulture, and bees. The entire farm is certified to high organic standards, and everything grown on farm is complimentary to one another. Durham Farms have supplied Fonterra since 2016 as well as having their own brand supplying farmers markets and retailers with their full variety of produce.
