Two quintessentially Kiwi desserts have combined to win a fun national competition during Jelly Tip July, part of a month long celebration of the iconic ice cream.
The ‘Pavlova Jelly Tip’ won the delightfully silly Jelly Tip Lab competition run by Tip Top – and a hand-made batch of just 500-sticks were produced this week.
‘Pavlova Jelly Tip’ is made of kiwifruit flavoured jelly and passionfruit flavoured ice cream, all dipped in white chocolate. It was created on Wednesday 22 July in the Jelly Tip Lab, and while it won’t be made for sale to the public, it will be distributed via radio station ZM Black Thunders and through select giveaways on the Tip Top Facebook page.
The winning Jelly Tip Lab idea, the ‘Pavlova Jelly Tip’ submitted by Shiena Ramirez, stayed true to the original Jelly Tip texture of hard shell, ice cream and all-important jelly. But it was the innovation and combination of flavours that saw it judged favourite by ZM breakfast host and official Jelly Tipster Vaughan Smith. As well as being in the Jelly Tip Lab to help create her idea, Shiena has also won a year’s supply of Tip Top ice cream.
The original Jelly Tip is a combination of creamy Tip Top vanilla ice cream, delicious raspberry flavoured jelly and chocolate. Whittaker’s and Griffin’s have also incorporated these delicious flavours into their own Limited Edition creations as part of Jelly Tip July.
“Kiwis can’t get enough of Jelly Tip and Jelly Tip July is all about having fun! We’ve loved seeing the creativity and sheer silliness that Jelly Tip July has brought out in ice cream lovers everywhere and have been blown away by the levels of excitement around the Pavlova Jelly Tip in the last 24 hours,” says Minna Reinikkala, Tip Top Group Marketing Manager.
“While this new take on the Jelly Tip won’t be available to the general public in the immediate future, we never say never! If Kiwis are desperate to try it for themselves, then we could definitely work on making a wider release, but it would take a few months in development to provide the higher volume needed,” adds Ms Reinikkala.
Tip Top will also be reserving some of the limited run of Pavlova Jelly Tip to donate to a charity auction.
Several well-known brands and top chefs are paying tribute to the iconic Kiwi ice cream throughout this month, including top eateries Depot, Giapo and the Food Truck Garage which have created their own take on the Jelly Tip for Jelly Tip July – with creations including savoury elements, wine and passionfruit.
The month isn’t over yet - join the fun and share your jovial, joyous, jiggly jelly tipped treats with #JellyTipJuly on Twitter and Instagram.
