According to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the average number of inactive Indonesians with limited physical activity in their daily life stood at 33% in 2018, an increase from 26% in 2013. In Jakarta, the average number rose from 44.2% (2013) to 47.8% (2018). A lack of exercise can lead to a greater risk of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer, which account for 63% of the deaths worldwide, killing 36 million people every year. Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent non-communicable diseases, and the government has been encouraging people to be active through its GERMAS program.
