Giving back on World Milk Day

Fonterra Oceania and Foodbank Victoria are serving up an extra 7,600 litres of fresh milk to our most vulnerable individuals and families this World Milk Day.

For nearly 20 years, Fonterra Oceania has worked with Foodbank Victoria to put dairy products into the hands of some of our communities’ most vulnerable people through donations of dairy staples like milk, cheese and butter.

On World Milk Day, we recognise the vital role we play in providing nutritious fresh milk to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity, by proudly donating an extra 7,600 litres of milk to Foodbank Victoria to support those doing it tough.

This support is in addition to our regular, weekly donation of 5,700 litres of fresh milk that help provide Foodbank’s charity network across the country with consistent access to dairy products, that are put onto the hands of those who need it most.

In the last 12 months alone, Fonterra Oceania has contributed 384,000 litres of milk, more than 8,000 kilograms of cheese, and 9,600 kilograms of butter to communities across Australia. That’s more than 1.7 million serves of dairy donated. Most of these donations were provided to Victorian-based individuals and families.

Fonterra Oceania Community and Social Impact Manager Amavi Mey, said that this additional donation of fresh milk comes at a time when Victorian's struggling with the cost-of-living need it most.

“1 June is World Milk Day, but it also signals the first day of winter in Victoria. As the temperature plummets, household bills can begin to mount, putting more financial pressure on those already facing food insecurity due to rising cost-of-living pressures.

“Last year 3.4 million Australian households struggled to put food on the table. Providing this boost in donation will give more people have access to this important source of nutrition,” she said.

World Milk Day celebrates the power of dairy, highlighting its many benefits for health and nutrition, while recognising the industry’s role in supporting jobs, communities and global economies.

“At Fonterra Oceania, we cannot think of a better way to celebrate our critical role in the dairy industry, than by giving back to the communities in which we operate and ensuring people have access to fresh milk and the unique bundle of nutrients and health benefits that milk naturally provides.”

“Our long-term partnership with Foodbank Victoria and Foodbank Australia is something that all our people are extremely proud of. We are committed to making an impact for those who need our support most, on World Milk Day, and every day.” Amavi said.
