Fonterra and Foodbank tackle food insecurity

Fonterra Australia has been working with Foodbank for close to 20 years, putting quality dairy nutrition into the hands of those who need it.

Last year alone, our partnership delivered 500,000 meals to people in need and 150,000 litres of milk for Foodbank Australia’s National Milk Program, with the milk donation going towards supporting Victorian’s in need.

At a time where Aussie households are grabbling with food insecurity and rising costs of living, now is the time to act.

Fonterra Australia has been working with Foodbank for close to 20 years, putting quality dairy nutrition into the hands of those who need it.

Foodbank Hunger Report 2023 shows how vital partnerships, like the one between Fonterra Australia and Foodbank, are in the situation of food insecurity.

Fonterra Australia's Head of Sustainability, Jack Holden, acknowledges the silent battle many families face and applauds Foodbank and its network charities for the work they do.

“Hunger is an issue that is often unnoticed, it’s an invisible and silent battle for many families across the country as they work hard to put food on the table,” he said.

“We know people are doing it tough and we hope we are making a small but important difference with the dairy products that we donate to Foodbank every week.

“Foodbank, along with its network charities, are the unsung heroes in all this. They work tirelessly to address this challenge all year round. On behalf of Fonterra Australia, our farmers and local communities, thank you for everything that you do,” Jack said.

Foodbank Hunger Report 2023 found 3.7 million Aussie households experienced food insecurity in the last 12 months – that’s more than all households in Sydney and Melbourne combined.

Foodbank Australia CEO, Brianna Casey, said the past few years have been incredibly difficult for households nationwide.

“From natural disasters and the COVID pandemic to the rising cost of living, we know food insecurity is hitting households it has never touched them before.”

Through life’s uncertainties, Foodbank is proud to have generous partners, like Fonterra Australia, ensuring struggling households have one less thing to worry about.

“We have an increasing number of people struggling to secure adequate food and the housing crisis is making things harder, with half of all renters and a third of all mortgage holders being food insecure in the last 12 months.

“Through life’s uncertainties, Foodbank is proud to have generous partners, like Fonterra Australia, ensuring struggling households have one less thing to worry about.

“We couldn’t have sourced the equivalent of 92 million meals in 2023 without their help,” added Brianna.
