New Equipment for Edendale Volunteer Fire Brigade
Edendale’s Volunteer Fire Brigade can now purchase a thermal imaging camera thanks to a grant from the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund.
The camera will be used to check burning buildings and help the brigade respond to incidents more efficiently. Currently the closest imaging cameras are located in Invercargill and Gore, both of which are around a 20-30 minute drive from Edendale.
The Volunteer Brigade was one of 26 groups from across Otago and Southland to receive between $500 and $5000 in the latest round of Fonterra Grass Roots funding.
Other recipients include the Balclutha Community Garden which plans on using the grant to build a dozen more raised beds for growing fruit and vegetables and Mossburn Primary School who will use the money to help transform their old school pool area into a school and community sports and arts facility.
This round of funding has seen the total number of community groups across Otago and Southland supported by the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund reach more than 210, taking the total number of groups throughout the country to over 1500 since the Fund began in 2013.
Fonterra’s Global Sponsorship Manager Kane Silcock says the Fund supports initiatives that enrich people’s lives and benefit their community. “It’s our way of supporting projects and ideas that bring our communities together and make them better, safer, more vibrant places to be, it’s a way to say thanks to the people of New Zealand.”
