Devonport Little Athletics Club gets funding from Fonterra Grass Roots Fund

The Devonport Little Athletics Club is reminding other community groups in the area to take the opportunity to apply for Fonterra’s Grass Roots Fund by 16th December.

Stephen Kettle, Treasurer of the Devonport Little Athletics Club (Little Aths), says the Club received sponsorship from Fonterra this year which will help purchase new High Jump mats.

“A new safety standard comes into effect in 2017 and our current mats that we have don’t meet the new requirements. We’re thankful for Fonterra’s support in helping us purchase the new mats which will help us keep our kids safe."

“The process to apply for the grant was a lot easier than we thought, with a simple application form to complete.”

Since 2011, Fonterra has supported over 300 initiatives across Victoria and Tasmania that focus on bringing communities together, caring for the environment and promoting healthy lifestyles and dairy nutrition.

Steve Taylor, Fonterra’s Regional Operations Manager in Wynyard and Spreyton, says that communities are an integral part of Fonterra’s business, which is why we believe in giving back by helping sustain healthy, vibrant communities through sponsoring ideas, projects and initiatives that make a real impact.

“The Devonport Little Aths Club is a great community organisation that has around 120 kids involved from the ages of 5 to16, while also running a Tiny Tot program for children aged 3 to 4 years. They promote fun, participation, involvement with your families and improving individual technique in a safe and friendly environment, while also being active and improving health and wellbeing.

“Little Aths fits within the criteria of bringing communities together as well as promoting healthy lifestyles, and we’re pleased to be able to support them with what they do for our communities,” says Steve.

The Fonterra Grass Roots Fund opens the doors to a wide range of community projects with grants between $500 and $5000.

Applications for the next round of grants close on Friday 16 December 2016 and Fonterra is encouraging organisations to ask for help to get their projects underway so they don’t miss the deadline.

Contact Patrina Synfield at Fonterra Wynyard and Spreyton, or go to www.fonterra.com/au/grassroots for more information on how to apply for the grant.
