Fonterra Indonesia has received the Green Industry Award 2022, achieving the highest assessment certification of level 5, from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Green Industry Award is awarded to companies that have met the Ministry’s Green Industry Standards, a set of sustainability requirements and incentives - both fiscal and non-fiscal - for businesses to help Indonesia lower its carbon emissions by 29 percent by 2030.

Fonterra was evaluated on criteria of production, waste, and emissions management performance, as well as company management. Our Indonesian manufacturing operations met these standards because it applies sustainable green industry principles in its production process.

Indonesia’s Green Industry program is intended to support the Republic of Indonesia’s transformation towards sustainable industrial development, harmonizing industrial growth with the preservation of the environment for the benefit of the wider community and planet.

"Sustainability is at the very heart of Fonterra's long-term strategy – it’s fundamental to the way we operate, and we’re committed to more sustainable food production activities globally".

M. Ali Nasution, Operations Director, Fonterra Brands Indonesia

In 2020, Fonterra Indonesia commissioned solar power on the roofs of its manufacturing facility in Cikarang, making it the first solar power system for the Co-op in Southeast Asia.

This system powers between 15 and 25 per cent of the site's energy needs direct from the sun. The use of solar energy has reduced the site’s CO2 emissions by over 424 metric tons per year, reducing its dependency on fossil fuels and consequentially greenhouse gas emissions.

“As a Co-Operative, we are committed to leading the transition to net-zero GHG emissions for dairy nutrition, adopting and investing in leading practices to improve land and water, reducing waste and protecting the wellbeing of animals in our supply chain,” said Nasution.

“In this way, we aim to demonstrate that dairy can be a net-positive contributor to nature. “
