Memorandum of Understanding
In 2013 the Memorandum of Understanding between Royal A-ware and Fonterra was signed. This meant the new factory in Heerenveen would be built.
Heerenveen is one of the biggest whey factories at Fonterra, operating 24/7, 365 days a year. Producing lactose and protein powder every day - enabling us to supply high-quality ingredients to customers all across Europe and globally.
The Heerenveen factory is currently operating at its full potential and is focusing on optimizing the Heerenveen whey stream.
In 2013 the Memorandum of Understanding between Royal A-ware and Fonterra was signed. This meant the new factory in Heerenveen would be built.
The Heerenveen factory officially opened in 2014 and started producing Lactose, WPC80, WPC for Sports and WPI.
In 2015 the portfolio expanded with functional WPCs.
The plant and processes kept improving and in 2017 it was made possible to supply WPC and Lactose for infant grade from Heerenveen.
The business continued to grow along with the increase in whey availability from Royal A-ware, which after an upgrade in 2019 enabled the site to process even more whey solids per year.
The Heerenveen factory is currently operating at its full potential and is focusing on optimizing the Heerenveen whey stream.
Royal A-ware is a Dutch family-owned dairy company that is rapidly growing through investments and greenfield builds. Sourcing milk from the north of the Netherlands and having various cheese manufacturing sites in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.
Our partnership with A-ware ensures we can source whey and cream to transform it into high-value ingredients. In addition to that we also produce our UHT cream products at A-ware, using European cream.
