Gavin & Oliver's Farm | Taranaki
From the farmers
Hi, we’re the Faull family, Gavin, Oliver, Allan & Richard, and we are fifth generation dairy farmers in Tikorangi, Taranaki.
What began as an 80 acre farm in 1867, has grown into a much larger, highly sophisticated dairy farming operation, called Trewithen. Our sharemilkers James & Melissa Barbour, together with Jason Groot, milk 1100 cows on 288 hectares.
James & Jason manage the farm with the help of three other fulltime staff members. They farm with huge pride, treating the farm as if it was their own and caring for the land, ensuring it is in good shape for generations to come
Our Farm and Environmental Story
We have invested extensively to ensure that Trewithen is an ecologically friendly farm. A modern effluent irrigation system operates on the farm, ensuring efficient distribution of processed effluent and is electronically controlled to ensure there is no land run-off or waterway contamination.
Extensive riparian and native planting along waterways helps the sustainable management of the land and waterways.
Historic Puriri plantings have been preserved and native tree plantations are being established. Over five kilometres of riparian protection planting has been carried out recently under the supervision of the Taranaki Regional Council. Trewithen is regarded as one of the best examples of responsible environmental care in Taranaki and the country and we are looking forward to showing New Zealanders why on December 10.
