Scott & Sue's Farm | Auckland
From the farmers
Hi, we’re Scott and Sue and our 155 hectare, 405 cow farm near Helensville has been in our family since 1920. Our children Bella (7) and Ollie (5) are the fifth generation to live and farm here. We are extremely proud of the farm’s history and have great respect for the family that farmed here before us.
We’re in an equity partnership with Scott’s parent Murray and Marie and we aim to keep farming at the highest level and give our children a beautiful place to grow up in. We are passionate about farming and we want to help encourage the next generation of farmers into dairying.
Our gate is always open to primary and secondary school children so we can do just that.
Our Farm and Environmental Story
The last seven years have seen a strong focus for us on improving infrastructure, driven by the need for efficiency, sustainability, reduction in environmental impacts, staff health, staff retention and animal health benefits. We were recognised for this work by winning the Supreme Award at the 2017 Auckland Balance Farm Environment Awards.
The farm has several significant natural features on its boundary – to the south the Kaipara River and on the North-East side a large native bush reserve – and we see it as our responsibility to protect these areas.
All of our waterways and drains are fencing, excluding stock access to the river and the bush. Over the last four years we have also carried out wetland development on the farm, fencing, planting natives and carrying out pest control to encourage regeneration of these areas and protect the native bird species there.
