Fonterra’s food and nutrition guidelines.

The Fonterra Group Nutrition Policy sets out our high-level nutritional commitments to deliver highly nutritious dairy products to the world. In the past year, we launched the detailed Fonterra Food and Nutrition Guidelines. The guidelines set the nutrition criteria for our product composition and inform our marketing practices across all branded consumer products and ingredients that Fonterra manufactures.

The guidelines complement food standards and regulations, as well as our own education and advocacy activities to raise awareness of the value of dairy nutrition in healthy, balanced diets.

Adding further credibility to these guidelines, the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation has independently reviewed and endorsed them as evidence-based guidelines founded on robust nutritional science and reflecting international directives on nutrition and health. In creating the guidelines, we have also established new targets for responsible product development to support balanced diets as part of a healthy lifestyle.

We provide New Zealanders with great nutrition through iconic kiwi brands like Anchor and Mainland.

Milk is a natural source of many of the valuable nutrients people need. It is the richest natural food source of bio-available calcium and also contributes many other essential nutrients including protein, vitamin A, riboflavin, vitamin B12, and zinc.

Dairy is who we are and what we do best. With more than 100 years of New Zealand expertise in developing nutritious dairy products, we’re dedicated to discovering new ways to deliver the unique health and wellness benefits of dairy.

We offer dairy products that meet the different health and wellness needs of our consumers all around the world. This is based on a belief in quality products, sound science and 'doing what's right' by our consumers.

We provide a wide variety of options in dairy to suit most people including regular, reduced-fat, low-fat and skim varieties, as well as calcium-enriched products. In its various forms, dairy enables a multitude of ‘better for you’ foods from products designed to aid growth and development in children, right through to low-fat convenience foods for adults.

Anchor Uno was launched as a smooth, probiotic yoghurt, free from artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, for kids. It also naturally contains a range of essential dairy nutrients, including protein, and is a source of calcium to help support growing bones. This year, Anchor Uno Yoghurt has been reformulated to ensure all Anchor Uno yoghurt products were suitable for children to enjoy everyday as part of a healthy diet. This included decreasing the fat content and removing the immunity support bundle, to make it a healthier yoghurt choice for kids, which is also the lowest sugar kids yoghurt on the market.

Tip Top has always prided itself on producing iconic Kiwi treats using fresh local ingredients, such as milk and cream. We are aware of New Zealand’s growing preference for natural ingredients. That’s why Tip Top has replaced all artificial colours and flavours with natural alternatives across our range of products.

With more than 80 years’ experience in dairy nutrition, our Research and Development Centre is the world’s leading dairy innovation hub, and it supports our regional technical centres to deliver customer support and commercialise a range of everyday consumer products. We provide world-leading ingredients, technical services and application science support to customers to help them realise their innovation potential in dairy.

Responsible marketing of breast-milk substitutes.

We support the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation the breastfeeding should be exclusive for this first six months of an infant's life, and that infants receive a safe and appropriate complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to two years of age and beyond.

However, we also believe that if mothers are unable to breastfeed, for medical or other reasons, then they should have access to a safe and nutritious alternative.

The WHO recognises that infant formula has a legitimate role to play in such circumstances.

It is the only recognised alternative which can allow mothers to provide vital nutrition that supports the rapid mental and physical development that occurs during their children's early years.

The WHO Code for the Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes (WHO Code) aims to contribute to the provision of safe and adequate nutrition for infants by protecting and promoting breastfeeding ensuring the proper use of breast-milk substitutes if necessary.  Fonterra supports the aim and intent of the WHO Code and also complies with any relevant country industry codes and legislation in all countries where our products targeting infants and young children are sold.
