  • FAQ's

    What’s happening?

All Fonterra Milk for Schools primary schools in NZ will have the opportunity go in the draw to win one of four school visits by Fonterra ambassador Richie McCaw. The awesome thing is that each visit (weather permitting) will be by helicopter. At each school, McCaw will speak to the children, have morning tea or breakfast and then engage in some fun activities. Each visit will be around 2 hours. The school visits will be on March 13, 20, 27 and April 4. Ten primary schools will also be selected to receive a highly commended prize of $250 of Fonterra product vouchers.

How do I nominate a school?

Any primary school can be nominated online. Simply go to, nominate the school and tell us in 150 words or less why it deserves a visit from Richie. You can also upload a photo or video to support your entry (subject to size limits).

What dates is the competition open for?

Nominations open online from 12.01am on February 20th and close at 11.59pm on March 19th. School visits will be take place on March 13th, 20th, 27th and April 4th. Once a school has been selected for a date and accepts the prize, all nominations that have been made are still eligible for the remaining school visits and highly commended prizes.

Do I need to have children go to the school I want to nominate?

No, that is not necessary. It maybe your old school, your grandchildren’s old school or you may know a teacher or your neighbour’s child at the school for example. The key part of the nomination is the reasons you give as to why Richie should visit.

How will I know what schools have been selected?

Each school that is selected will be contacted by a Fonterra Milk for Schools representative. Selected schools that accept the prize will then be announced on this page on March 6, 13, 20 and 27. It will also be announced on a special Milk News insert into Shortland St on TV2 on each of these Tuesdays during the first commercial break. That will be repeated the following morning on TVNZ’s Breakfast programme.

How long will each school visit be?

Up to two hours is available at each school to have a talk and play some games with Richie. The actual amount of time and activities is dependent upon each winning school who we will work with to form a visit schedule.

My school isn’t part of the Fonterra Milk for Schools program – can we enter?

Your school can be nominated if they are not part of the program, but they must be a Fonterra Milk for Schools participant to accept the prize. The principal can sign up the school if they want to be involved. We will contact any selected schools who are not part of the program and give them the opportunity to join to enable them to take up the prize.

Can intermediate schools enter Richie’s Milk Run?

The Fonterra Milk for Schools program is only available to full primary, contributing, composite and special schools who have primary school students in years 1-6 (as identified by the Ministry of Education Directory of Educational Institutions). This means that unfortunately intermediate schools with only year 7 and year 8 pupils are not eligible to win a visit from Richie. Further details on eligibility for the Fonterra Milk for Schools programme is available here.
