Edendale, Southland

Site Open Gates Saturday April 6

We're opening our gates at Fonterra Edendale and inviting you to come and see what happens behind the scenes on Saturday April 6.

Edendale opened in 1886, and being in operation for over 137 years makes it New Zealand’s oldest dairy processing site. The site is also one of Fonterra’s largest, with a total of 13 plants that produce a range of dairy products that are exported all over the world.

But don’t be fooled into thinking that age puts it behind the eight ball – Edendale received the award for the most efficient dairy manufacturing site in New Zealand on its 135th birthday.

The Edendale team will be showcasing their site with guided site tours, and there will be chances to try some of your favourite products from Tip Top and some yummy Whittaker’s chocolate.

We’re excited in sharing what we do on site with the Southland Community

Richard Gray, Edendale Operations Manager

“We ship our products all over the world, to over 70 international markets including Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. 14 million bags of milk powder are exported from Edendale each year, and when laid in an end to end single line, they would reach from Invercargill to Dubai!”

“This is an open invitation for our local community to see how proud we are of what we do, learn more about the dairy production process and have some fun at the same time.”
