Darfield, Canterbury

Site Open Gates Saturday April 6

We're opening our gates at Fonterra Darfield and inviting you to come and see what happens behind the scenes on Saturday April 6.

Darfield opened in 2012, and sits right in the heart of New Zealand’s fastest growing dairying region. The site specialises in producing milk powder and cream cheese, which are exported around the world.

Perhaps the jewel in Darfield’s crown is our new state-of-the-art cream cheese plant. It was commissioned at the end of 2018 and can manufacture up to 24,000 metric tonnes of cream cheese annually – that’s equivalent to the weight of the Statue of Liberty!

The Darfield team will be showcasing their site with tours, and there will even be a chance to try some of the cream cheese we produce.

We’re proud to share the products we make at Darfield with over 40 international markets across South East Asia, China and the Middle East

Harriet Van Genne-Knape, Darfield Operations Manager

“Our products are valued across the world, and to be able to produce them at such an efficient and sustainable site is gratifying. Sustainability is a real focus on site, and we’re proud to be on track to saving around 100 tanker loads of water a day thanks to a new reverse osmosis plant.”

“If you want to see the world’s biggest milk powder dryer and Darfield’s newest addition, the cream cheese plant, come along! This is an open invitation for our local community to see how proud we are of what we do, learn more about the dairy production process and have some fun at the same time.”
