Nick is a dairy farmer and father of four children and has been farming with his wife on a large-scale dairy farm in Mid Canterbury since 2011.

Before taking up dairy farming, Nick studied at Lincoln University, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters of Commerce (Agribusiness). He was an agricultural economist and part owner of a small consultancy firm (Nimmo-Bell) based in Wellington and Hawke’s Bay.

Nick’s work as a consultant required him to deliver financial and economic analyses to a range of corporate and government clients both in New Zealand and overseas. These clients included regional councils, MAF, DairyNZ and a range of corporate clients in New Zealand, and the World Bank, the UN, AusAID and NZAID in developing countries (i.e., Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, the Pacific and Central Asia).

Nick’s interest in governance has been piqued by the Fonterra Governance Development Programme and stems from his enthusiasm for all things farming and a particular interest in organisational performance. He hopes to be able to apply the knowledge and skills developed through the course to his existing directorship in his own business and contribute to organisations that are involved in the management of natural resources used in farming.
