Matt Ross

Fonterra Alumni 2017 - 2018

I have farmed in North Otago since graduating from Massey University with a bachelor of Applied Science (Agriculture) in 1998.

I am married to Julie and we have three school aged children. Together, we live and farm at Duntroon in the Waitaki Valley inland from Oamaru, where we milk 1800 cows.

As a family we are very fortunate and proud to live in a very special part of Aotearoa New Zealand. We work hard to ensure our people, animals and the environment are given every opportunity to be at their best.

Off farm I have held roles in project management, farm advisory and infrastructure development throughout the lower South Island.

During this time I developed a particular interest in water and environmental planning at the local and national level and have spent a considerable amount of time in the Resource Management space since the mid 2000’s.

It has provided opportunities to contribute via governance roles in local irrigation Company’s, Irrigation New Zealand, and as a community appointed member of the Lower Waitaki South Coastal Zone Committee, a subsidiary of Environment Canterbury and the Waitaki and Waimate District Councils.

I have been an active member of the Dairy Environmental Leaders network throughout this time.

More recently I have been elected to the Boards of LIC and the North Otago Irrigation Company (NOIC).
