Their current focus is on continuing to build a farming enterprise that is sustainable and scalable.
Agriculture in the Amuri Basin is heavily reliant on irrigation. Sustainable water management is critical to the sector’s future and this is where James’ current governance interests lie as a director of Amuri Irrigation Ltd and a committee member of the Hurunui Waiau Zone Committee.
The zone committee operates as a joint committee of Environment Canterbury and the Hurunui District Council, charged with working collaboratively to develop a water management implementation program.
James believes the co-operative business model has served agriculture well and is where his on-going governance interest lies.
