Don Hammond is currently a self-employed Biosecurity and Registered Forestry Consultant, and company director. He has a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma of Business Studies.

His governance roles include Chair of the NZ Game Animal Council (Ministerial appointment), an Independent Board member of Bioprotection Centre of Research Excellence, a member of the Fonterra Shareholders’ Council, Chair of STIMBR (Stakeholders in Methyl Bromide Reduction) and member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Don is also a director and chair of several private companies involved in aviation, forestry and commercial property and has extensive experience in forestry (commercial and indigenous) and farming (deer, dairy and dry-stock) sectors and management of biosecurity responses throughout New Zealand.

Don has a passion for the primary sector and seeks to see improved governance to deliver greater outcomes for those involved and the wider community.

Don has lived in the wider Rotorua area for over 30 years, is married and has four children (two sons, two daughters).  

On the rare occasion he has spare time he enjoys hunting, travelling, flying and fishing.
