Amanda Elliot

Fonterra Alumni 2018 - 2019

I am able to build a display of tinned tomatoes, price an avocado, serve some pastrami and pack a re-usable shopping bag.

As the Owner of New World Island Bay in Wellington since 2013 I have embraced the community spirit, recognising the store to be the hub of the community and feel privileged to support the community that supports local families and businesses.

Strongly focused on sustainability in the store; promoting the reduction of plastic bags, recycling and waste minimisation I was instrumental in New World Island Bay becoming the first supermarket to be accredited by Conscious Consumers NZ.

Previously, the Development Manager at Pak’n Save Kapiti for eight years before a seven year move to Queenstown as a mother and Project Manager /Interior Designer for my husbands building company. I deeply missed the grassroots of the grocery industry and returned to Supermarket Management in the north as Trainee Operator and Fresh Food Manager in NW Porirua before settling in as a Grocer in Island Bay.

I have been a Governor at Scots College, Wellington for two years where my three sons attend as students and a Trustee of the Argosy Trust a newly established Beach and Boat wise programme for the Wellington region.
