This section contains detailed information on alumni of the Fonterra Governance Development Programme.
In the programme we have observed that farmer cooperative participants bring different characteristics into their governance roles.
For example, many of them are ‘calculated’ risk takers – (farming conditions them to this, given their weather dependency and adaptability to economic conditions); they generally deal with ambiguity well; take a long-term strategic view (to be successful in farming one needs to be prepared to take this view); and many have been involved in farms of significant size with a significant asset and liability base. They also have enquiring minds and opinions.
All these characteristics lead to a person who can bring a different perspective to Board debate which adds to the diversity in the Boardroom.
