Simon studied Law and Economics at the University of Canterbury and gained his legal practicing certificate after graduating.
He practiced general and commercial law in Christchurch for several years prior to returning to Morrinsville to take on management of one of the family farms during the GFC. Later, motivated to learn more about the corporate side of dairy business, he moved to Auckland to take up a role with Fonterra. Simon began working in the milk supply team, before moving to global ingredient sales in the NZMP team, and then eventually he made his way to the M & A team.
After nearly 5 years with Fonterra, Simon and his wife moved to the Bay of Plenty to begin working with Maxwell Farms Limited as its Commercial Manager. Simon progressed within the MFL group to become its GM in 2016 and has undertaken a significant restructure of the business during this time. He has made major improvements to the H & S culture, staff retention, young stock pipelines and breeding programmes. While working through the last two seasons of low payouts he has lead the business on significant, but sustainable, reductions in Farm Working Expenses and improved bottom line results.
Simon and his young family own and operate a dry-stock property in Paengaroa from their base in Papamoa. Through their entities they also operate a home staging business and are part of a company which supplies milk to Fonterra. Simon is a keen farmer and hunter when time allows.
