In 2009, Cole and his wife Virginia got a 500 cow lower order sharemilking job in Leeston which they sharemilked for 3 years. During the second season they took on a second sharemilking job in Oxford. In 2012, they moved to Pleasant Point and went 50/50 sharemilking 900 for four years. In 2017, they purchased a dairy farm in Hinds, Mid-Canterbury in an Equity Partnership.
Since moving to Canterbury in 2005, Cole has been heavily involved in New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) from club level right the way to the national board. Cole was on the NZYF Board from 2011-2016. The first three years Cole held the role of HR Committee Chair and was Chair of the Board from 2013-2015. Major achievements during the role as Chair of the Board was the recruitment of a new CEO and setting up clear CEO Performance management processes and policies.
In 2011 Cole competed in the ANZ Young Farmer of the Year Contest Grand final and placed 3 rd in the Grand Final in Masterton. Cole’s passion for goverance has seen him attend the “Leading the Board” goverance training through the Burnside Hart Trust. Cole completed the GDP is 2016.
