I am the Managing Director of our dairy farming and horticultural business which operate two dairy farms, grow and pack asparagus for domestic and export sale and are currently diversifying into growing strawberries in Poly-tunnels. Before returning to the family business, I was a rural banker for six years in Canterbury, Waikato and Manawatu.
My current governance roles are locally based in the Horowhenua to ensure I can spend the maximum time with my young family. I am Chair of the Horowhenua New Zealand Trust, which is responsible for economic development in the district. I am Managing Director of Lewis Dairies (dairy farming); Lewis Farming (asparagus farming); and The Tender Tips Company (asparagus processing and exporting), where we collectively employ up to 150 people seasonally and are strongly positioned as the second largest asparagus business in New Zealand.
My early governance experience was fostered with New Zealand Young Farmers, where I was vice chair of the national board, chairman of the local club as well as involved in running a number of national committees. I was awarded the RAS NZ Rural Ambassador Award in 2013 and was second in the FCAS Australasian Rural Ambassador Competition. In 2009 I completed the Kellogg Rural Leaders Programme.
