Alison is a farmer-elected Director of Livestock Improvement Corporation Ltd, and an appointed Director of the state-owned enterprise, AsureQuality Ltd.

She also holds several not-for-profit governance positions. Alison and her husband Andrew own a Wairarapa-based family dairy farming business and in 2003 won the NZ Sharemilker of the Year title.


Alison has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons) and PhD from Massey University, and has progressed through a range of careers including Technical Officer (Nutrition) for the NZ Dairy Board in the 1980’s and an academic career which started upon completion of her PhD in 1995. This began with a lectureship and progressed through to heading up the Nutrition Research Group at Massey University in the early 2000’s.

In 2005 Alison joined Fonterra as a Principal Scientist (Nutrition) and moved through to the role of Technical Manager (Nutrition) with her team contributing to the development and commercialisation of dairy ingredients for large multi-national companies. 

In 2012 Alison opted to leave Fonterra to pursue a career in corporate governance but she continues to be actively involved as an industry leader, working with dairy farmers to help achieve environmentally sustainable farming practices.
