Spreading the Goodness of Dairy to Families in Need during Ramadan
Fonterra Brands Indonesia celebrates World Milk Day by serving 2,000 breakfasting meals and donating 108,000 dairy products in 10 cities to the less fortunate throughout Ramadan
To mark World Milk Day, which falls during the holy month of Ramadan this year, Fonterra Brands Indonesia (FBI), the dairy nutrition company from New Zealand, is today celebrating both occasions by sharing the goodness of dairy and making a positive difference in the local community.
Through the Fonterra Berbagi programme, FBI partnered with non-profit organization Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), to distribute more than 2,000 breakfasting meals at local mosque, Masjid Istiqlal. Fonterra Brands Indonesia, is also donating more than 111,000 dairy products for families and orphanage in need in major cities across Indonesia – Aceh, Medan, Padang, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang/Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Makassar.
The breakfasting in Masjid Istiqlal was attended by Happy Farida, Head of Family Welfare Movement (PKK); N. Imam Akbari, Senior Vice President of Group Philantrophy and Communication ACT; Rini Maryani, Vice President of Philantrophy Network Department ACT; Bukhari, a representative from Masjid Istiqlal; more than 150 Fonterra employees who volunteered their time; as well as members from the Family Welfare Movement
Afifudin A, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Director, Fonterra Brands Indonesia, said the team feels privileged to be able to be at the event to share the goodness of dairy with the families and orphanages in need in the surrounding Masjid Istiqlal areas.
"We believe in supporting and enriching the lives of the people and communities where we operate, and during this Holy month of Ramadan, which is a special time of great blessings, and in celebration of World Milk Day, Fonterra is here today to care for families and orphanages in need and share the goodness of dairy to support their nutrition."
"We encourage everyone to include dairy in their everyday diets, especially during Ramadan. Dairy is one of the most nutritionally complete foods available and contains great nutrients that can go a long way to sustain energy levels, replenish nutrients and fluids lost during fasting and keep you healthy," said Afifudin.
More than 150 Fonterra employees volunteered their time to cook and serve healthy breakfasting meals and shared dairy health benefits with the local community.
"We are blessed to be able to volunteer our time and make a positive difference to help build better health and wellbeing for the community in need. It is truly the passion of our team and the support of our partners like ACT that makes this event possible,” added Afifudin.
Happy Farida, Head of Family Welfare Movement in DKI Jakarta, said, "On behalf of all members of the Family Welfare Movement and DKI Jakarta province, we welcome Fonterra Berbagi as it encourages the spirit of giving, an inspiring initiative that drives social contribution and action that brings happiness to those people in need during Ramadan."
Last Ramadan, Fonterra Truck and volunteers visited an orphanage, a retirement home and disability centre to bring dairy goodness to the less fortunate during break-fast. In April 2017, Fonterra donated more than 13,000 dairy products to people in need in Wisma Sangrini, Rumah Kesenian Kampung Nelayan Muara Angke, Jakarta Utara for 4,694 families in need in 25 locations in Jabodetabek.
