The team in Indonesia has kicked off its annual Fonterra Dairy Scholarship programme – with more scholars this year. Find out how we’re making a difference in Indonesian dairying communities.

Every year in Indonesia the team runs the Fonterra Dairy Scholarship in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Now in its fifth year, the Fonterra Dairy Scholarship is part of Fonterra’s commitment to develop Indonesian dairying capabilities and grow local supply.

And our initiatives are bigger and better than before.

This year we’ve increased the number of participants, including 13 farmers, two government support officers and one service provider. They will attend hands-on training on dairy farming best practices first in Indonesia, and then in New Zealand where Fonterra shares our world-class dairying expertise.

Our scholars are also sharing what they’ve learnt with us in their local communities, which benefits the wider dairy industry in Indonesia.

In West Sumatera, Fonterra saw the opportunity to work with three scholarship alumni – all women – to launch a farmer discussion group programme for farming women.

This Women in Dairy programme in West Sumatera is a first for Fonterra in Indonesia – the first time a programme has been planned and delivered specifically for women dairy farmers.

Our dairy development programmes in Indonesia have received strong support from farmers and the Government – all of which help Fonterra to help contribute to meet the growing local demand for high-quality dairy nutrition in the country.

Since 2013, Fonterra has trained 48 participants – including 39 farmers and nine government support officers – who have seen improvements in milk production and quality, on-farm efficiencies and herd health.
