This extends to our practices during the recruitment process.

All of our application and assessment processes can be delivered online, and where possible, we make adjustments to factor your personal circumstances to ensure that when you apply for a role with Fonterra, you’re confident you can put your best foot forward.

The exception to this is the practical assessment for our Tanker drivers.  You can be confident though that we can deliver these safely under L3/4 restrictions, and full PPE and health protocols are provided to ensure your safety and that of our team.  For some roles, some aspects of our pre-employment medical may be delivered in-person under L3/4 restrictions.

We believe vaccination is one of the best ways we can protect ourselves, our whānau, our communities, and our team.  We strongly encourage all of our people to be vaccinated and will support you to do this, if you have not been vaccinated already. We are currently working on a vaccination policy for Fonterra’s New Zealand workplaces. It’s important we get this right, so we’re taking the necessary time to consider each workplace and each role before we make a recommendation. In the coming weeks, when we have a draft policy we will share it with employees for their feedback. No decisions will be made until employees have had a chance to have their say.  

If you join one of our operational sites as either an employee or contractor, you will need to have a negative COVID test before coming to site for the first time. Our sites operate in site or shift bubbles (depending on Alert Levels) and this is just one of the ways that we can assure you and your colleagues that we do not have undetected transmission on site. The pre-employment COVID test can either be a saliva test administered as part of your pre-employment medical, or you can arrange your own testing if you would prefer.

This testing forms part of a range of on-site measures.  Dependent on your location and current Alert Levels, these may include temperature checking, freely available sanitiser, mask, social distancing, and work bubble protocols, and restrictions on group gatherings, site visitors, and inter-site travel.  

A positive test will not affect your employment status with us (i.e. employment is not conditional on a negative test). If you do test positive, then medical care including MIQ is managed through the Ministry of Health and the local DHB. Fonterra does, however, support all employees (including new employees) with paid COVID leave during their illness.
