As a leader in dairy, we partner with companies that complement our focus on creating high quality products for customers and consumers throughout the world.
In March 2015 Fonterra completed a partial Beingmate tender offer, with the intention to form a global partnership to help meet China’s growing demand for infant formula. The partnership will create a fully integrated global supply chain from the farm gate direct to China’s consumers, using Fonterra’s milk pools and manufacturing sites in New Zealand, Australia, and Europe. It is intended to increase the volume and value of Fonterra’s ingredients and branded products exported to China.
Clover Fonterra Ingredients
In 2005 Fonterra partnered with Clover, South Africa’s largest dairy company, to form Clover Fonterra Ingredients (CFI). Through this partnership, we market dairy ingredients and supply foodservice products throughout the Sub-Saharan region in Africa and combine the strengths of our international supply base with Clover’s strong regional platform.
Dairy Partners Americas
Fonterra forged an alliance with Nestlé in 2003 to create Dairy Partners Americas (DPA) which produces ingredients and consumer products, with strong brands in the liquid and chilled dairy market throughout Latin America. The alliance incorporates two businesses: A consumer chilled and liquid products business and a milk procurement and milk powder and ingredients manufacturing business. Fonterra licences brands and provides its large-scale milk procurement, product development, and manufacturing and processing expertise, as well as technical services and certain technology to the alliance. Nestlé licences brands and provides its product development, manufacturing and processing expertise, as well as distribution infrastructure to the alliance. DPA operates 15 manufacturing sites in the region and has more than 4000 employees.
DFE Pharma (DFE)
Fonterra and Dutch dairy company RoyalFriesland Campina combined our lactose excipients businesses in 2006 to form the world’s leading excipient manufacturer, DFE Pharma. DFE develops, produces and markets excipients for oral solid dose and dry powder inhalation formulations to pharmaceutical companies globally. The business is based in Germany, and has production facilities there in Nörten-Hardenberg, Kapuni in New Zealand and Borculo, Foxhol and Veghel in the Netherlands. DFE has customers in more than 100 countries and has sales offices in Germany, the USA, Singapore and Japan.
