Fonterra is the world's biggest dairy exporter. We process 95 per cent of New Zealand's milk and generate more than 20 per cent of New Zealand's annual export earnings. We also process 22 per cent of the milk produced in Australia.

Formed in October 2001, Fonterra is a co-operative owned by nearly 11,000 dairy farmers. We also collect milk from more than 2000 dairy farmers in Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Western Australia.
Each year in New Zealand, our 430 tankers make 2.6 million collections picking up 558,000 loads. In Australia, up to 100 tankers collect milk from Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
We ship two million tonnes of product out of New Zealand annually. We also sell another 650,000 tonnes of non New Zealand product each year.
We sell 350 tonnes of product each hour - 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. In fact, every five minutes we close the door on a container and send it to one of the 140 markets we reach.
In New Zealand, we have primary processing sites around the country. These manufacture a number of products including milk powder, butter, cheese, casein, nutritional powders, lactose and whey protein concentrate.
