Fonterra Rebuilding Communities Programme

To assist the people of Christchurch to recover from the devastating earthquakes Fonterra established the Rebuilding Communities Programme. This enabled Christchurch community groups, clubs and schools that needed a hand to get their community back together to apply for support during March 2011 - February 2012.

The programme offered funding packages of up to $5000 to community projects within set criteria. This includes:

1. Community Safety
We supported the Christchurch community through donations for new safety projects such as safety equipment or training to further prepare the community for future disasters. Support included survival kits and first aid training.
2. Christchurch Community
We supported the Christchurch community to replace essential community wellbeing equipment lost in the earthquakes. Support included toys for toy libraries and counselling books.
3. Environmental Sustainability
We supported the restoration of environmental areas which encourage community spirit within schools, early childhood centres and the local community. Examples included replanting trees and replacing garden beds.

Over 80 community groups, clubs and schools were successful in receiving funding this call period. These will be publicised in local media from week commencing 26 March 2012.
